Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Demonstrations & Road Blocks

The U.S. Embassy in La Paz has received multiple reports that several
demonstrations and road blocks are expected throughout the city La Paz and El
Alto on Tuesday, July 11 and Wednesday, July 12, 2017. At this time, the
blockade points are not yet defined. Though these demonstrations do not target the
embassy or American citizens, transportation throughout the capital is anticipated
be restricted, including road blockages. In this regard, U.S. citizens are reminded
to exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or
demonstrations, and never attempt to pass through a roadblock.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate
into violence. Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise
caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations
and monitor local media for updates
