On September 15, CAO Johanna Villalobos donated over 200 high quality books by American authors translated into Spanish under the U.S. Embassy program, “United States and Bolivia, United in Literature.” The goal of this program is to encourage reading and improve the quality of education for children and adolescents in the 10 de Marzo community in District 2 of El Alto. The Youth Center works with at-risk youth in high crime areas of El Alto, and the center has the only existing library in the community. The Center has opened its doors to the entire population in the surrounding communities. Embassy La Paz will continue to work with the Metro Youth Center in English Language teaching, sports programs, and cultural programs in this strategic location. Leaders of the community board of residents and youth gathered at the donation ceremony. The President of the Board highlighted words of thanks to the Embassy and the U.S. government from community leaders.
