High-tech expert from State Department visited Bolivia
June 2, 2014 — US Department of State Deputy Assistant Secretary for Platforms Tom Cochran visited Bolivia from May 29 to 31. During his stay, he visited the bi-national centers in La Paz and Santa Cruz to discuss the use of Internet in teaching English as a second language. He also met with Bolivian social media experts to discuss the possibilities that new digital technologies offer to enhance access to information and learning.
Cochran is Deputy Coordinator for Platforms in the Bureau of International Information Programs, a position he assumed in March 2014.
Before his appointment at the Department of State, he was the Chief Technology Officer at Atlantic Media. As CTO, he was charged with leading the successful execution of a global business strategy through industry-leading digital and enterprise technology.
Prior to joining Atlantic Media, he was the Director of New Media Technologies for the White House, leading the team to provide a secure, stable, and scalable infrastructure across all White House digital properties, enabling the amplification of the President’s message. At the White House, his team was responsible for leading the technical execution of the “We the People” petition application, connecting people directly with the Administration.
