Honoring the Fallen: Peace Officers Memorial Day
2 MINUTE READ
June 4, 2019

On May 15, 2019, the U.S. Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia joined many other U.S. embassies and consulates around the world in remembering and honoring fallen law enforcement and security personnel during Peace Officers Memorial Day.  National Police Week not only offers a unique opportunity to recognize the brave law enforcement who have sacrificed their lives protecting our mission as well as our host nation colleagues who protect our community.

The Embassy honored José Luis Miranda Rodriguez, a member of the Local Guard Force in Bolivia.  He was killed during an attack on the Marne Security Guard Residence on October 19, 1990.

We also remember our four Diplomatic Security Service special agents who have given their lives protecting diplomacy, as well as their more than 150 colleagues from around the globe who have died in serve to diplomatic security.  They are honored on the DS Memorial in Arlington, Virginia.

We reflect upon the men and women who protect us and who have made the ultimate sacrifice.  Their watch may have ended, but our gratitude for their service will not.
