Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Demonstration in La Paz

July 24, 2017

The U.S. Embassy in La Paz informs U.S. citizens that demonstrations are expected to take place at the San Andres University beginning at 12:00 on July 24, 2017. Students will be demonstrating with the stated purpose of demanding the resignation of the manager of the university medical insurance for administrative mismanagement–and will march beginning at university’s main building at Plaza del Bicentenario to the university’s medical insurance building, located in Avenida 6 de Agosto. Heavy traffic is expected in the surrounding area.
Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
